3D DEMO REEL

Done with Maya

3D Animation

The goal is to have an environment and have my character interact with it. I struggled with how to make s realistic sneeze but overall it is a fun challenge.

This is a sit to stand exercise. I decided to go with this scenario because it's really easy to make an accurate reference when this is my reaction to making this animation, with only a few exaggerations to make it more interesting.

Aang earthbending taking reference from Sifu Kisu's demo of the Northern Mantis style, which is the martial arts style used by earthbenders in the show.

Made using Aang rig by Rigstation.

Waymond fight scene in Everything Everywhere All at Once recreate. Despite using the video reference, there is a lot I had to adjust because of the timing and the camera cuts. The choreography remains similar.

Made using Akali rig from Riot Games and PJ Hogan model.

This is my first time animating quadrupedal with references taken from my dog.

Made using Jacko rig by micahb.

I used this opportunity to create an intro for Vayne as if she's in Valorant, showcasing her abilities. This one is challenging, trying to capture the physics of her floating, but I like the camera angles I chose for her.

Made using Vayne Valorant rig by Matheus Lima.

I had a friend filmed a reference video and told her she could do whatever she likes as long as it shows a change in emotion.

Made using Amy rig from Gabriel Salas.

HORSE RACE PIECE

Done with ToonBoom Storyboard Pro and Photoshop

Story Summary

The story is based on my childhood with my grandpa where we used to play this horse racing game. The objective is go around the board and back to the "stable," done my simply rolling the dice.  There's an option to send the opponent's piece back to the start by taking its place, rolling the exact number and not over. In this short, in the flashback, the grandpa let the little girl win by not taking her last piece and instead moved another piece.

The girl, all grown up, said goodbye to her grandparents and traveled abroad to study.  Time flew by, she finally accommodated to the new life and made new friends, but she missed her family. When she got back, her grandpa was in the hospital sick and soon passed away.

The girl didn't have the courage to see her grandpa one last time at the funeral, and she was going to live with that decision, but she was visited by a moth. A lot of people in Vietnam believe that moths are relatives reincarnated coming to visit their families. So in this story, the girl was comforted by the moth, which she thought to be her grandpa.

Sketches & Drafts

Storyboard sketches of the revised version.

First draft of the story following the original script.  A lot has been changed to make it shorter while maintaining the main plot. Lots of angle changes to make it less flat and more dynamic.

Exploring different aesthetics to evoke sort of a reminiscing feeling of old, fuzzy memories.

2D ANIMATICS & STORYBOARDS

Borrasca

Storyboard based on a snippet of Borrasca.

The main character, Sam, got called home, and found out that his sister went missing. He was convinced that the ritual that she did based on an urban legend was the reason, but his dad didn't believe him. His friends Kimber and Kyle however were thinking the same thing, so they met up in the forest to look for her.  Her name, Whitney W., edged in the tree confirmed their suspicions.

About Susan

I was given three words: green, spider, and Susan.

Walks in a bubbly gardener, skipping in the greenhouse humming a tune. She enjoys being around plants and flowers. At first glance, she is a warm and kind person, befriending butterflies and ladybugs that come by. A spider sees that and decides she wants to approach the girl, but instead she freaks out and run away from the spider.  Susan can be either the girl or the spider, depending on who you consider the main character of this story.

Mistake

The song I choose is Sanmon Shosetsu (Instrumental) by King Gnu before coming with a story that would go with it.

This is a story about two girls befriending each other and ending up collaborating. Tension arises when they start to disagree, where one girl grows increasing frustrated and rips up everything they have been working on before leaving.  She then comes back in attempt to fix everything, and while the other girl is first mad at her, she is relieved that she comes back. They continues working with each other as the song fades out.

A Night at the Bar

I was given three images to work with, the bar scene, and man in an oversized suit, and a little boy.

I came up with the story about how a young kid was able to sneak in a bar and walked around unnoticed by the bouncer. When he finally did, he brought the kid around the bar to find his parents, but was unsuccessful. He saw a woman outside frantically calling and took the boy outside. The kid didn't realize anything wrong, while the mom was happy she found her son. The seemingly stoic bouncer smiled, glad that he was able to do something good.
